What is PYP Counseling at AISB?

Picture
AISB Counseling Mission Statement:
The mission of the AISB counseling program is to create a safe, healthy, and supportive environment in order for each student to achieve their full potential. The program is comprehensive and developmental in nature, and addresses the academic, personal/social, career, and global mindset domains of student development. The AISB counselors seek to collaborate with students, teachers, parents, and the wider community in order to achieve these common goals.

      Prevention                                                                                    Intervention Services

The PYP counselor's role is to help support the social, behavioral and emotional needs of all students aged 2-12 at AISB.

Prevention is an important first step.  The counselor helps provide transition support through the AISB Transition Program for children, parents and staff.  Counseling classroom lessons are important for all students to learn about personal, social and emotional skills.  The counselor also provides parenting workshops, discussions and information. Staff training in regards to child development and mental health are also provided regularly. The counselor has a unique role of participating in other school programs, systems and committees in order to meet the needs of all students.

Some students and families may need further counseling support.  The counselor can provide intervention services for students by having them participate in small group counseling sessions or individual sessions for a short time.  The counselor spends time with teachers, parents and staff to discuss student concerns and provide input or strategies to help the student further.

Increased Support

At times of crisis, or when prevention and intervention strategies are not working well, the counselor can provide specific services for families or students. The counselor can also provide connections to outside community services.

Counselor for  EC2, EC4, 1st, 3rd and 5th grades

Hello, my name is Amanda Quigley.  Supporting younger children and their families has always been a joy of mine. I love being able to take part in a child's development of new strengths and talents. Prior to my role at AISB, I worked as an Educational Psychologist in Utah, USA.  I arrived in Romania in 2014 and have loved living here these past few years.
As an aunt of 22 nieces and nephews, I began learning child care and development strategies at a young age.  I have always enjoyed coming up with new activities, strategies, counseling tools and tips to help children gain confidence, emotional growth and strong bonds with peers.
My newest interest is in developing better ways to support Third Culture Kids and their families. Outside of my role as the counselor, I enjoy meeting new people, practicing yoga, trying new foods and watching a good movie with my husband.
